Fort Sumter National Monument
Travel to the Charleston Harbor near Mount Pleasant, South Carolina to visit the historical Fort Sumter. This is the place where the Civil War began. On April 12, 1861 Confederate Soldiers opened fire on the Union fort. There were no casualties during this bombardment for either side, but the Civil War ended up being the bloodiest war in American History. More than 600,000 men were killed.
